After the scene she’d caused when Joshua was a toddler, Clive made it a point to avoid the woman when he was caring for Joshua. He was privy to Anabella’s petty cruelty to Clive, but never truly witnessed the worst. Joshua gasps, then slaps his hand over his mouth. “She’s talking about you.”Ī male voice responds, “What, the eldest Rosfield boy? Nah.”Īnabella scoffs, “Dead in the rubble. Joshua looks up at him, eyes wide, he squeaks. Moving away? “Perhaps a boy with black hair and a white leather coat?” “Did you find anyone else?” Her voice goes slightly quieter. He’s almost surprised she can’t hear him. I can only pray there will be a place for me in the world His Radiance seeks to create.”Ĭlive bites on his lips, the sound of his harsh breaths echoing sounds akin to a harsh clap of thunder. “Joshua was my world, and now he is dead. ![]() He pulls Joshua even closer when Anabella’s voice seeps through the door, sounding as if she’s just on the other side. Your Grace? Clive swallows the bile that burns at his throat. ![]() Nothing else matters.”Ī loud scream from outside the door startles both of them and Clive pulls Joshua ever closer. The physical touch is far more soothing than it has any right being. He pulls his fingers through knotted blonde curls, “You’re alive.” Joshua rips at Clive’s coat, forcing it open and pressing his bare bloody palms to Clive’s stomach. He pulls Joshua into his arms, holds his jagged edges as he breaks and weeps into Clive’s chest. Clive feels his shoulders relax, tension easing from him like a breath of air after a bold dive, relieving and weightless. Joshua’s chin wobbles, but he shakes his head. Clive pulls a dusty handkerchief from his pocket and wipes at Joshua’s face, focusing on his mouth and nose. He’s painted in blood, matting his hair and slowly drying on his cheeks. Uses Joshua’s hectic panting as a timer, listens as even he slows down, feeding off of Clive. The musty cavernous space of the Apodytery echoes their breathing and Clive clings to it. With more control than he knew himself capable of, Clive forces deep breaths into his lungs. The frenetic flutter of his own heart, a frightened bird against his rib cage. He’s breathing too fast, but Clive is too numb to feel whatever flows through their bond. Joshua closes the door and sits against it. He’s manhandled towards the Apodytery, led inside and gently pressed to the wall. Hands leaving bloody smears over Clive’s arm and chest. Through a haze, he feels Joshua pull on his arm. ![]() The rubble scratches at him as Ifrit falls away. Joshua, his Phoenix, is prone beneath him, soaked in blood.Ĭlive collapses to his knees. Phoenix Gate is crumbled around them, most Rosarian Shields long dead. Ifrit bellows into the black night, desperately but fruitlessly scratching massive claws against Phoenix’s fragile chest. Phoenix screams with Joshua, letting free a jet stream of fire that should rip through Ifrit. His throat aches and his head pounds and he tries so desperately to get the monster to listen. Ifrit digs vicious claws into the chest of the Phoenix and Clive screams. Those nightmares always end with Clive waking up, a scream in his throat, soaked to the bone in sweat. In black thick muck that clings to him and holds him in place no matter how hard or fast he goes. Keep Your Head Up Princess song lyrics are written by Anson Seabra. It reminds Clive very much of those nightmares he has where he’s running, frantically sprinting to get to Joshua, but his legs are consumed in tar. ![]() Keep Your Head Up Princess Lyrics by Anson Seabra is latest English song with music also given by Anson Seabra.
